I just found ANY audience noise disconcerting for most of the show, because it was so clear that it was being manipulated a lot of the time.

I found them throwing over to Martin Osterdahl was most telling because that was so clearly a pure feed of crowd and felt like the only other time we got that was when they let Petra get her cheers. Everything else (including Spain!) always sounded off

This is why I think this was done deliberately. Let people think the "cheers" for the acts must have genuine because we heard genuine boos elsewhere, but it wasnt for our lovely apolitical songs and contestants, but rather for the big bad business guy.

The sound definitely sounded "weird" to me at times you'd expect it to. It may have been that I was listening out for it more. But to insist there was absolutely no manipulation whatsoever is bullshit.

I’m not a Eurovision stalwart however I did think some agreement had been reached behind the scenes once the 12s started rolling in so heavily.

I think Switzerland just met the criteria for juries.

They've been angling hard for some years now with jury fodder.

Delighted the juries sunk Israel.
 
Did Switzerland do better than Sweden last year with the juries?
 
It’s interesting that last year everyone was saying we need to do something about the juries and now it’s the complete opposite. I think it only shows that 50/50 is probably the right thing.

Yes, I was surprised perhaps by degree, but not by the win at all. If you look at vocal talent and performance (particularly when the vocal performance absolutely could have been reduced by that performance), it's huge jury bait.

To be fair, I haven’t listened through the rest, just was interested in the Israeli reaction.

It’s weird- I totally backed SVT’s “we’re not manipulating it” statement the other day, but I really do think after looking at the final, it was bullshit.

Even if the noise itself we heard wasn't fake, it seemed to clearly be chosen to be piped in or amplified at certain times. It was just disconcerting.

To be fair, there is ALWAYS some manipulation of the original / ambient sound feed when you produce so that the commentator feed(s) are implemented on top of it. You have to, otherwise it'll just sound dodgy.

But I wouldn't be surprised if production played with the dial a little more this year for the bits between songs or just lowered the volume of the crowd mic feeds on the whole. Will have to rewatch.
 
Whatever the truth, in some way I'm glad the booing wasn't too clear - surely that would only have generated more votes for Israel. The juries sunk it thankfully, but I feel it not winning the televote is a slight victory at this point.

We were expecting it, but the Israeli score was still an agog moment for us. However the fact the right wing haven't entirely infiltrated our beloved show, feels like a win.
 
The Israeli public score was a strange moment of ' how many?' followed by 'oh Thank Christ it's not going to be enough, is it?'
 
I don't get The code and I don't understand how so many juries gave it 12 points. Was it so outstanding above everything else? It was only 5th with the televote. Not that I hate it, I'm just confused because I always sort of get it, even if I don't like the song, but it makes sense. France was not my cup of tea either but I would totally get it winning the jury by a mile. A friend of mine has been saying for the last 2 months that Switzerland was the obvious winner, and I didn't believe him. Oh well, getting old I guess :vomit:
 
The number of times Graham Norton repeated how Slimane's voice gave up on him in the jury performance made me wonder how many points he lost as a result of it.

Well with the help of some prominent pre-recorded vocals in the opera parts, Portugal was amazing vocally without extra help. Yeah, I get it and I totally understand high marks from the juries, what surprises me is that it was so unanimous.

I didn't realise they relied on prerecord vocals. Is that fact or rumour?

5th with the televote is still pretty big though right? My non eurovision loon friends liked Nemo the most yesterday and thought they were cutie of the evening. :D
 
Yeah I caught her saying the LEAD vocals are fully live. So implying backing are not necessarily.

Portugal's performance was the only one not uploaded right away, instead it was published just at the close of televoting. RTP had to query it before the EBU published it.

Apparently, they also used her semifinal footage for the social media promo, whereas the final footage was used for everyone else. Just because of her nails.

The ebu has been getting increasingly crazy over the years. It's just full blown madness now. Yesterday they snatched a non binary flag from someone and an eu flag from someone else cause they were political.
