she finally breaks top 500 on Spotify :o

currently the 500th most popular artist in the world with 8.7m monthly listeners. It might seem like not much but I believe when Say Something came out she had about 2m fewer. BMG have done a great job of helping her gain traction in the streaming age.

Is there a way of getting it with a decent amount of change from twenty quid?

Drops out of the US Billboard 200 this week :(

Drops 2-54 on Top Album Sales, which probably means another 3-4k of pure sales.

She's at #10 in the latest midweeks. Must be all that vinyl.

Doesn't look like a Strictly performance is happening now.

The release strategy has been clever, I’ll give you that, but seeing loons on Instagram with loads of copies does cheapen the whole thing a bit. It’s clearly not a PROPER hit :D

Who ISNT doing that these days though?

The Steps loons, judging by what I see on PJ are just as bad.

I feel guilty (towards David Attenborough) for buying a second version.

And short of Dua Lipa guesting on Real Groove I don't think this album is going to deliver a streaming hit.

Realistically Kylie never is going to deliver a streaming hit.

I take Sheena's point, but I'm pleased BMG is playing the same game as everyone else.

Oh I absolutely agree with Sheena's point but then what other option do AGED acts have? If there are people out there willing to fork out their cash, why shouldn't labels take advantage? These aren't children having their pockets emptied after all.

There is a discussion ongoing on PJ about all the people that Kylie could possibly work with and Mark Ronson was mentioned since he has expressed interest several times in the past. But saying something and doing it are two different things - what incentive would there be for him to work with her if she can't guarantee a hit? This is an issue that is only going to get worse for her, not better.

This is based on ZERO EVIDENCE but I'd imagine the songwriters are more likely to make money from Kylie, who can fleece her fanbase to buy twenty collector's editions with their songs on them, than getting a hit on streaming services, just from what I've seen of the royalties acts get from streaming services.

I will say that Magic, like a lot of Kylie "hits" before it (this was certainly the case with Dancing) is being used extensively by the terrestrials in their televised coverage of sports, reality shows and the like.

That must bring in a pretty penny or two.

Kylie must have released WAY more versions than Steps!

Well that's already a 5 version lead over her single cassette!

More versions my arse!

She has multiple cassettes on Discogs listed. Indeed, she has over 20 formats currently and Steps have 5 (admittedly no one has listed the cassettes yet!)

To be fair I really haven't been keeping count.

It can't be 20 can it? They are just bundles surely which are such a ridiculous concept to me anyway. HOW MANY COPIES OF THE SAME ALBUM CAN BE PACKAGE TOGETHER? :D

What's a proper hit? Most of the albums in the album chart are fuelled by fanbase purchases in their opening weeks. The ones that have been there forever are fuelled by streams of hit singles. Mabel's album bobbed around top 40 for the best part of a year but it was 95% streaming points. I don't imagine there are many or even any top ten albums whose sales are all physical/digital (and "organic") and not driven by multi format purchases.

Kylie's 80k is probably more profitable than Mabel or Dua's 250k so I doubt the label care how many individual buyers that came from.

There’s been at least 5 vinyls off the top of my head!

Yeah but they normally debut high, drop and crash. Disco has been kept going by more format drops each week and we’re trumpeting it. It just feels a bit false.

I'd be tempted to BAN multiple formats but then I fear Kylie might fade into insignificance.

They never did it on the album charts but they did on singles for many years

Which versions have been released other than in the week of release to get that #1?

Glow in the dark this week and I thought the other deluxe being delayed meant it went into week two’s sales but I’m not certain on that one.
