Madonna - Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones (remix anthology)

This was specifically released to celebrate her dance remixes to be honest. Many of these were not available outside of 12" mixes and were not on streaming. For the hardcore fanbase it's been a very welcome release.
Oh, I'm sure but I maintain the packaging on the 3CD is misleading. Especially the cover shot being from 1985/6 - the picture on the 1CD/2LP doesn't give off a "greatest hits" feel.

That would be The Immaculate Collection. 13xP and counting.
Celebration has a stronger streaming presence.
Those two are her main GH compilations. I wouldn't want another one anytime soon to be honest.

It doesn't have to be physically released - just a streaming thing; consolidate her presence on Spotify etc rather than having tracks streamed from 3 or more different compilations.

I agree to an extent. The single CD / double LP version (face close-up cover) clearly states 'Finally Enough Love No. 1s REMIXED' on it.
I think for the 6LP/3-CD version they wanted to go for a 'companion' artwork motif to Celebration.

True; but I think Celebration and the This is Madonna playlist on Spotify already do this to a certain extent.
That being said I wouldn't be surprised if, down the line, we get another proper GH - maybe if/when the biopic visual autobiography (:bad: ) ever comes out.

I think the closest comparison album I can think of is the far less definitive ‘Boombox’ by Kylie which reached #28.

You Can Dance says hi :disco:

UK No. 5 (1xP)
US No. 14 (1xP)

December 1987

You forget the platinum selling J-To-Tha-L-O! by Jennifer Lopez. :disco:
I think that You Can Dance was probably the biggest selling Remix album until Blood on the Dancefloor but I think Jo To The Lo! outsold that as well.

One of my all time faves.
It was meant to be on True Blue but she axed it because it was too similar to 'Holiday' (she co-wrote it with its writer.)
It was released as a limited promo for You Can Dance in JAPAN ONLY and it goes for ludicrous amounts now but it's forever on my want list.

Kylie farting out a compilation every few years is just something that happens. I genuinely can't remember if I bought SBIT or not. I don't THINK I did.
There was NO incentive for anyone other than the completists who collect multiple variants in different colours, to purchase it. If it was better presented and was definitive, I'd have definitely bought it. It is surely not impossible for a release like that to appeal to casual buyers and dedicated fans alike?

At least there is always some thought and consideration behind Madonna's compilations, even if the cover art is being unnecessarily criticised.

I want a Madonna compilation that feels well thought out and properly champions her legacy and unmatched singles run.

Considering how wonderful TIC was, and even Something To Remember, they felt complete and thematic.

GHV2 was so thrown together and a wasted opportunity considering she had such momentum at the time. Celebration felt like a glorified Spotify playlist. Then again I don’t think she was arsed or even that involved in either of those was she? Celebration a bit moreso but it felt so half baked and the add on singles were so shit (to be fair Celebration was a big hit at the time)

Clearly she's going to have fuck all sales from streaming, but I'd hope her physicals would be decent enough to guarantee her top ten with relative ease.

Although apparently she's on fewer formats than most of the new release competition this week.

"Pretty much everyone from that time is dead now, but anywho" :basil:

Will watch later, but she says that line (or words to that effect) a lot and it's always a mixture of awkward silence and applause and awkward post-realising what they've applauded silence. Like, well done for not being David Bowie and Whitney, Madge :D

Doesn't it being 50 tracks help its SEA points, or something?

From wiki:

In Forbes, Hugh McIntyre noted that the usage of album equivalent units has made artists release albums with excessive track lists.[20] Brian Josephs from Spin said: "If you're a thirsty (eager for fame or notoriety) pop artist of note, you can theoretically game the system by packing as many as 20 tracks into an album, in the process rolling up more album-equivalent units—and thus album "sales"—as listeners check the album out." He also criticized Chris Brown's album Heartbreak on a Full Moon which contains over 40 songs.

I'm still not entirely sure how it works in the UK - I think the streams of the top two tracks are averaged out, and then there's a conversion rate of 1000 streams equalling one sale.

So yes, I guess it does help - assuming people are listening to the full album.

Apparently she has entered the Spotify UK top 100 artists chart (at No. 100 :basil: ) for the first time ever.
I remember looking her up on the Spotify charts when she released the condensed version of this remix behemoth and was astounded that her peak at that point was something like 179.

That's a RESULT surely?!
Bringing up the rear to Steps?!? Then again, 'Beautiful Stranger' was kept off the top spot here in the UK thanks to S Club 7, so she's got previous on the whole playing second fiddle to manufactured pop rubbish.

I think it's one of those releases where what it sells is more interesting in terms of what it says about the state of the charts than anything else.

It's aimed primarily at her hardcore fanbase and the sales will reflect that.

But I'd hope they would number more than the 5k or so it should take to get a top ten placing.

That said I've not dipped my toe into THAT community (no shade, ANY act's hardcore fanbase is borderline terrifying for various reasons) for many years.

11,192 sales. Last week that would have got her #2 in the final chart but this week looks more competitive.
That's superb for a remix album (even if some people think they're getting a greatest hits :D )!

Holding steady at 22.2M monthly listeners at Spitifier, no. 155 in the world.
I think that outside of a Running Up That Hill-style resurgence or something of that ilk she'll probably slowly and steadily continue her increase in streaming numbers - would be really nice to see her in the top 100 soon.
