Madonna - Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones (remix anthology)

That's superb for a remix album (even if some people think they're getting a greatest hits :D )!
It's a bit of an odd one really because it sort of is a quarter of a greatest hits in that the a lot of the earlier versions are single or video versions. Those are the ones I'll be going back to most, and where most of the streaming sales are coming from, looking at the stats.

That's actually not that bad considering Madame X opened up with 27,227 and it was a new album.
This is what I'm interested in, in as much as I don't imagine Madame X sold that well outside the hardcore fanbase either. But I guess there is more reason to stream or buy an album of new material compared to mixes.

I think they (Warner) have been pretty good with the concept and overall execution of this. Front-loading the track list with the earlier 'remixes' (most of which are 7" edits etc) makes it more accessible for the GP* whilst the multitude of formats with some rare remixes means the loons are on board.

I still don't think it'll do anything commercially in the long term, but as a soft launch for a larger 'years long' reissue campaign it's much better than your standard 'GH' compilation.

GP = general public, not general physician.

6LP version has now arrived :disco:

Have you played it yet? I'm halfway through the first side of the first disc and the mastering is appalling. I want to make sure it isn't just me but the bass throbs (I don't know how to describe it) are distorted and render it unlistenable. I'm going to need to play it on my other player to check...

I've just flipped it over to "Physical Attraction" which has the same synthy bassline as the songs on Side 1 which have the problem (Like a Virgin and Material Girl) and it seems fine.

Not played it yet - will do when I get back from work - I'll let you know how I get on ..

Hold on, they didn’t bother using the video mix of Fever?

NULL AND VOID

Projected to chart top ten in the USA and potentially #1 in pure sales:

It looks like something is off with the SEA projection (hard to believe she "streamed" only 2k units). There is some talk that the numbers will be higher on Billboard for this reason.

Which I hope relaxes her stance on having hit singles (which X totally gave me the impression of) and now knows full well she is the new Babs of oh another album in like a bullet.

isn't the first half of this what we always wanted for Celebration but, instead we got sloppy edits and new, pointless made-up mixes of songs? (See Express Yourself and that zipper intro). WE WON!

I hope she’ll manage Uk number 3
the dream of a US top 10 may be fading
Anyway still great results given there is zero new material and no promo

Weren't they anticipating a more successful debut in Germany, as their chart is based on revenue, not units?

Madonna's Australian No. 1 albums in full:

True Blue
I'm Breathless
Immaculate Collection
Erotica
Bedtime Stories
Something To Remember
Ray Of Light
Confessions on A Dance Floor
Hard Candy
MDNA
Rebel Heart
Finally Enough Love

The '90s taste jumped out

No idea but Germany has been pretty much over her since Confessions. Lots of negative press (even worse than the UK). And I know because my sistahh lives thurrr. So a top 10 debut is still FINE with zero promo and zero new material (did I say that already ? OK)

This zero promo nonsense needs to stop.

We want to hear your hits MADGE, give us live performances of Express Yourself, Open Your heart, or Vogue, it doesn't matter! :(

Though, if it were up to her she would probably do acoustic versions of Candy Shop, Hey You, and X-Static Process (Guitar included).

Imagine if she was #1 at the same time Kate Bush was #1 in the singles chart. What a time to be a middle aged Australian gay.

Well, apart from Olivia dying.
Kate Bush hitting number one is amazing. In the same year, Madonna having high first-week sales/streaming is the sign of a still-present fanbase kicking in. Olivia dying is a tragic loss. 2022 has been quite the year of extremes.

Good news!! Steps and Madonna in the top 3, it’s a good gay day in the world

Side note, I was AGOG to see how cluttered the album chart is with old releases, not new information of course but I’ve rarely checked it these days.
