Eurovision 2024: Malmö Arena (1 Viewer)

Get LENA PH in. She's a GREAT presenter and was a good guest host of MF whenever she did it a couple of years back or so.

Every time Sweden host I dream that the lack of danger of NQ ignominy might tempt Lena and/or Carola back into the fold, but instead we get FRANS and ROBIN STJERNBERG :zombie:

Hopefully next year will break the curse.

To think, a couple hundred more votes for Martin Rolinski in the 2013 Andra Chansen round would've spared us of Robin :(

I'd love them to just let their hair down a little bit. I was saying to @Tetris-Rock last night - an attitude on the lines of sending one of the Shufflas/Nordmans/Guld och gröna skogars/RUN TO THE HILLS of the world would go down just a treat.

(too much to ask for them to scrap the juries for a year? :basil:)

Regarding presenters, in order of significance:
  1. Petra Mede: Back destroyed, tied to ITV.
  2. Måns: Would do it.
  3. Gina: Quit presenting, hated by Israel.
  4. Tone Sekelius: Tied down to TV3.
  5. Sanna: Actively campaigning for it.
  6. Finer: SVT seems to prefer Sanna.
  7. Wahlgren: Tied to Kanal 5 but not as a presenter and would find a way.
  8. DJ Trexx: Would do it.
  9. David Hellenius: Tied down to ITV.
  10. Meltzer: At Kanal 5, but not as a presenter.
  11. Carina Berg: Tied down to Kanal 5.
  12. Anis Don Demina: Would do it.
  13. Per Andersson: Would do it.
  14. Lina Hedlund: Would do it.
  15. Henrik Dorsin: Would do it.
  16. Alexandra Pascalidou: Long shot.
  17. Malena Ernman: Long shot.
Has Gina actually publicly said anything that Israel could take contention with, or do you just mean 'she's Palestinian' here?

I would LOVE them to send Anna Bergendahl now that she's had plenty of redemption since the last time they hosted.

But anything that isn't 'playing it safe' is fine with me, I really appreciated that their last two host entries were out of the blue/songs that the usual Sweden fans took a dislike to.

They should totally send Anna Bergendahl or (and I know it is a long shot) but what an amazing moment for an Alcazar return. If there’s a year Sweden to take MF a little less seriously, it’s 2024z

We’ll probably get BISHARA

Shirley Clamp, Eric Saade and Linda Bengtzing, with Nanne/Charlotte Perelli/Carola in the green room.

Also hope to see BWO, Alcazar and Youngblood reform for another crack at Melodifestivalen

Apparently Mans were planning to take part in the Swedish selection process next year to potentially tie Logan as long as he found the right song. He also mantained that if Loreen wins in Liverpool "I'll have to push those plans back a few years."

An interesting tidbit is that Mans coached Loreen before her first Melfest appearance.

You have taken in some expert advice. Mans Zelmerlov is up there putting things in place.
- Mhmm, mmm he is good.

With what is he contributing?
- Everething. Support, a lot of support. He is fucking creative, he is... so... he is with us and fiddling around with everything, I love it!

Yes, he was up on stage talking a ot. What did he say?
- "Loreen, dare to be yourself. Express more, you're so fucking great!", hihihihi, yes but those are things he should say!

What a nice support. He is also the boyfriend of Marie. Will that help you? Will she make sure things will be lined up better for you on Saturday?
Naeo, I don't think so. Marie, she's very by the book and does her thing and I don't think she's partial in any way.

Is Mans primarily here to support you or Marie?
I believe he is here to support the both of us. For gods sake it's his chick! So... both.

I really don't think they will get Petra OR Måns to do it, I think Petra's illness and Måns being overexposed. Tone doesn't have the SKILLS. Why isn't Farah on your list? I think she would definitley be a good choice - perhaps Sanna, Farah and a male presenter would work well. I think Sweden tend to keep to lower numbers of presenters so I think there will be 2-3 maximum.

Måns being overexposed hasn't kept him from turning up in every ESC bar one since he won. Måns loves the production aspects of things, is easy to work with, readily available and flexible. That's why he so often gets roped into doing these things.

Tone is hot commodity and one of the most sought after presenters Sweden has at the moment. She also hosted the most watched TV show of Sweden's third biggest channel last year. That's why she's already a bigger star within Sweden than the likes of Mariette, Saade and Wiktoria, although those contracts will also likely prevent her for doing gigs with SVT.

The main things going for Sanna is that she's a known face for ESC fans and already tied to SVT. She's also well regarded within production for learning Mede's whole script for ESC 2016, continously being on standby had Mede's back gotten too much to bear.

Loreen is not completely left field either. In her lost years between 2005 and 2010 she did some hosting. More often she chose to stay behind the camera as a producer and director for various TV shows.

I do think SVT will chose someone more tested though.

Here for her passive aggressively calling everyone DARLING :disco:
I think you’ll find that it’ll be DARLIN’ DORLIN’

Anyway there’s no way she’s doing it. I’m sure I saw mention of her presenting career during one of the many interviews I’ve been bingeing on and it didn’t seem to be one of her fondest memories TO SAY THE LEAST! Anyway she’s always stoned silly so imagine the mess :disco:

Mans is more tested and he can genuinely barely read a cue card

Björn Ulvaeus hopes ABBA will play a role in Eurovision 2024

Ulvaeus has sporadic contact with the other three ABBA members, now a little less than two years ago when the new album Voyage was released. As fun and lucrative as that was, it really was the final piece.

"That was definitely our last album. Not our last activity, because now we have to start thinking about next year, when it will be fifty years ago that we won the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo."

Thanks to compatriot Loreen and her hit Tattoo, that party is celebrated in their own country.

"Amazing, right? Our anniversary and the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden coincide beautifully. Yes, that's a coincidence. I know there are people who think it's intentional, but it's not planned. I'm glad Loreen won, even if I missed it myself. I was writing that night. Although I had seen her perform in our national preliminary round, so I am familiar with her act and her song."

It seems inevitable that ABBA will have a role in the Eurovision next year.

"Hopefully in Stockholm, our home city. ABBA and the Eurovision Song Contest belong together and next year even more so. How are we going to do it? We have no idea yet. We're just now thinking about that. Our record company recently started talking about it. We have to do something with it, it will not be a re-release, we find that very boring. We need to be more resourceful."

And just like that Loreen gave us one last ABBA original release :disco:

Are we really ruling out all of these people who have shows on other channels? I have no idea how it works in other countries but over here most TV presenters are freelance with only a couple of exceptions.

It’s not like the BBC chose a load of hosts from its own “stable” to host Eurovision. It’s a national event, surely much bigger than a show that a broadcaster is producing.

Would it really be so much of a barrier?

By the sounds of it they're already talking about it as if Petra making a high profile switch to another channel would make it a difficulty, but I find it hard to imagine it'd be a persona non grata deal for everyone who isn't SVT.

I was about to say what about Norton, but he does non BBC work too.

Maybe Petra's really was destroyed by childbirth.

And if that isn't reason enough to think kids are all homophobic, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS

She might not be suited for Eurovision in the 2020’s but I’d love to see Kattis Ahlström (and maybe Anders Lundin) as the host again. ❤️

Me calling Petra to ask her about the birth of her child.
